Let people chat , break the ice , have a nice cold drink and get to know each other with some music in the background to kill the silence while we patiently wait for the happy couple to return.
Cocktail reception is often done wrong , it should focus on the guests getting to know each other and setting the mood for what’s to come later . We have found that what works best is unintrusive background music , acoustic or chilled , at a low comfortable volume just filling the silence .
